Michael Kidd

Michael Kidd first came to the Cabrach in the early 1960s when he arrived to teach at Blairmore School in Glass. He was a keen walker and spent many seasons walking the old drove roads and paths across the Cabrach. He also made friends with many of the folk still living in the area and recorded their family connections to the farms. Michael has always felt a deep connection to the Cabrach and calls it his ‘spiritual home’.

Cabrach Poem

Michael Kidd is a prolific diarist and kept a journal of all his walks and exploration of the Cabrach. His diaries provide a unique portrait of the Cabrach at a time of change when many of the last families to live in the Cabrach were on the cusp of moving away. During the Covid lockdown, Michael revisited his diaries and wrote this poem as a reflection on his memories of the Cabrach and its people.
