The Cabrach Trust
Colin McBain was born in Rhynie on 27th September 1943. Colin’s mother came from the Braes of Glenvliet and his father, a gamekeeper moved down from Kinrara near Aviemore in 1939. Colin’s uncle bought the Grouse Inn at Ardwell and the McBain family have been there since then. Colin is the youngest of three brothers. Archie the eldest became a doctor and moved away. Middle brother Ian ran the Grouse Inn for many years with his wife Wilma and later their daughter Maria. Colin took the farming tenancy for Ardwell for a while but moved away for work.
Today, Colin lives in Craigellachie but spends most of his time in the Cabrach. He and his son Donald run Barrel Creations. Their unique workshop creates beautiful artisan furniture, cabinets and outdoor furniture from vintage whisky barrels.
