The Cabrach Trust
Meriol was born in Elgin in 1958. Her connection to the Cabrach is through her grandfather Edward William Rattray who was born at Ardluie. The Rattray family are a long standing Cabrach family and descendants still have very strong connections with the area including at Burntreble, Tornichelt and Inverharroch. Although Meriol never lived in the Cabrach, she remembers trips to visit family and she has also shared her family album with the Cabrach Trust. Meriol’s grandfather Edward William Rattray was one of thirteen children, born to William and Isabella Rattray (nee McCombie) who farmed at Ardluie (Ardlewie). Most of the children either stayed in the Cabrach or kept very strong links with the area. Edward is pictured here aged eighteen. He went on to farm at Newtack in Keith and later Muiryhall in Urquhart. Edward died in 1981 aged eighty one.
