As 2024 draws to a close, we are looking back on what has been an incredibly busy year for the Trust. This year will forever be remembered as a significant year as we advance our mission to regenerate The Cabrach, as long-awaited milestones have been reached and our wider programme of projects, events, and workshops have driven huge interest in our work. Thank you for being part of this journey.
Let’s revisit some highlights and look ahead to 2025 with anticipation and optimism.
The third edition of the relaunched Cabrach Picnic and Games brought joy to families who travelled from near and far. Held on Sunday, 28th July, this year’s event was extra special with the presentation of the historic Cabrach Rose Bowl—awarded for the first time in 90 years! The event’s reputation as Scotland’s most family-friendly Highland Games continues to grow.
After a long 170-year slumber, production of real Cabrach Whisky recommenced. Our First Spirit Ceremony took place at The Cabrach Distillery on Friday 25th October, and we celebrated this historic moment alongside our Cabrach community, dignitaries, and project partners. In addition, we were delighted to welcome Kate Forbes, Deputy First Minister, as a special guest for the ceremony. The distillery is our one-of-a-kind social enterprise which will serve as the lungs of our long-term economic regeneration strategy. With the distillery now operational, attention has already turned to Phase 2 of the project which will see the development of our companion café bistro and the appointment of our heritage centre.
There’s still time to join The Cabrach Collective and become a founding member of our ‘whisky with purpose’ story —perhaps the perfect gift for a loved one this festive season.
In an exceptional community effort, The Cabrach Local Place Plan is being finalised and readied for submission to Moray Council. This plan presents a shared vision for a vibrant, inclusive, and sustainable future for The Cabrach. Reaching this stage in plan development has only been made possible through the support and participation of The Cabrach community; a testament to what we can achieve together.

Looking for a refreshing walk this holiday season? Explore The Cabrach Discovery Trail—a 2km all-ability pathway offering scenic views, a wildflower meadow, and a nature hide. The perfect place to draw breath and be one with nature during the holidays. This year, we’ve extended the trail and undertaken vital conservation work, including tree planting, meadow care, and riverbank restoration.
To our members, partners, and volunteers—thank you for your unwavering support of the Trust and your belief in the future prosperity of The Cabrach. Together, we’ve achieved so much this year, with a very exciting New Year to come.
