Upper Deveron Just Transition
The Cabrach Trust convened an important conversation on Wednesday 6th April, bringing together a cross section of residents & business owners from across the communities of the Upper Deveron, alongside MSPs and senior council representatives from both Moray & Aberdeenshire. Special thanks to Richard Lochhead MSP for coordinating attendees alongside Alexander Burnett MSP. Wonderful to host the group at Inverharroch and progress an important inter-authority, cross-party conversation focused on #JustTransition.
In the true spirit of the Just Transition Commission, this was an exercise in galvanising meaningful engagement with a community already being impacted by the transition to net zero. The risks associated with over development of onshore wind, and associated cumulative impact, across the Upper Deveron were acknowledged and discussed. However, equal importance was placed on exploring what our shared vision for this area looks like in the context of a Just Transition. This touched on the Upper Deveron as:
An important conversation and the beginning of a process which intends to protect the viability, and enhance the vitality, of communities across the Upper Deveron. As Richard noted, through coordinated action this area could serve as an exemplar to other rural communities as we meet the challenges associated with the transition to net zero head on.
